Resting in God

Pray That All Would Find It

When you think of someone resting, what example comes to mind? Could it be a person kicking back under a shady tree with a hat pulled over their face? Or, on the other hand; what about someone not resting? Could it be someone working up a sweat in the hot sun planting a new tree? Well those example may seem good, however, the real truth may be just the opposite of what you think. You see, you can be in that prone position as that first person, but in your heart and mind there is restlessness and anxieties and fears. Or, you could be as that second person who is working up a sweat, and yet be at total peace and rest.

You see, true rest is not that outward condition but itʼs that inward condition which is of the heart. Itʼs that peace of knowing that there is a God who loves you and cares for you. It is Godʼs Holy Spirit who is dwelling in you, comforting you and giving you a hope regardless of your outward condition. Oh what peace and joy we have in Jesus. "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30) So, in him we have true rest. So, why not put all your trust in God and let Him lead the way for you. Remember, Father truly knows best and he will direct all your paths.

  • For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
  • (a) "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. (John 15:5) (b)"By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. (John 15:8)
  • There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. (Hebrews 4:9-11)

Below are some encouraging passages from God's word to help you either

came to know Him, or help you in your walk with him, or even better yet, both. God is totally Awesome who made a way for you and me to come to him and receive everlasting life.

  • "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
  • "This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. (John 15:12-13)
  • But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
  • But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:4-7)
  • By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down [our] lives for the brethren. (1 John 3:16)
  • He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:8-10)

We are to totally trust in God for all our needs. He promises to always take care of us even in the middle of the storm. The comforting thing is that nothing can separate us from his love. Keep your mind and heart always on God.

  • For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)
  • "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)
  • Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
  • Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. (Psalm 25:4-5)
